The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is designed to provide highly specialized nursing care for people who are seriously ill or injured. Highly trained physicians and nurses on the unit are well prepared and equipped to handle any emergencies or crises that may arise. Intensive care nurses utilize their nursing skills, special education and abilities to work with the technology used in the ICU. Along with attending to patients' physical needs, intensive care nurses strive to be sensitive to the psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families
