Wilson Medical Center Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Providers Announce Relationship with Wilson County Schools
September 29, 2021
Wilson Physician Services is excited to kick off the fall sports season with the announcement of a relationship with Wilson County Schools.
Wilson Regional Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, part of Wilson Physician Services, is now the official provider of sports medicine and athletic training services for Wilson County Schools.
On July 12, the three high school athletic trainers (ATs)– Harley Christensen of Beddingfield, Jonathan Gould of Fike, and John Winslow of Hunt, officially joined the Wilson Physician Services team. They will work in collaboration with the orthopedic and sports medicine providers at Wilson Regional Orthopedics & Sports Medicine which include Thomas Parrish, D.O., William “Ryan” Mitchell, M.D., Lawrence Yenni, M.D., John Wechter, M.D., and Christian Selby, certified physician assistant and athletic trainer.
“I am extremely excited for this relationship with the local athletic trainers at Fike, Beddingfield and Hunt high schools. I’m confident it will give the student athletes better access to providers regarding their sports medicine issues. Through our office alone, we’re able to provide services from sports physicals to treatment of fractures, muscle strains, concussions and surgical issues,” says Dr. Parrish, official sports medicine physician for the teams.
He continues to say, “Both myself and Dr. Mitchell have an extensive sports medicine background in which we worked very closely with the athletic trainers at our respective programs. I believe an open line of communication between providers and ATs set us up for success to see the athlete as quickly as possible and establish a treatment plan which will allow them to return to their sports safely and confidently.”
The sports medicine services include injury prevention, concussion management, injury assessment and management, sports physicals, treatment of acute injuries, healthy lifestyle promotion and return to play decisions for sick or injured athletes.
This collaboration with Wilson County Schools will expand our reach within the community and allow us to ensure a safe playing environment for all our student athletes. It will also create a smoother coordination of care between the athletic trainers and sports medicine specialists, who can more efficiently guide referrals to physical therapy, imaging services and orthopedic surgeons, if necessary.
