Wilson Medical Center enters Aquablation therapy era
August 12, 2024
Wilson, N.C. (August 12, 2024) – Wilson Medical Center is pleased to announce a new advancement in Urological surgical care. Dr. Jordan Brady completed the first four Aquablation treatments at the hospital on Monday, Aug. 12. This technology will not only serve Wilson-area patients, but also those in the region, as Wilson Medical Center is the only facility within the 252 area code of Eastern North Carolina to offer Aquablation treatment.
Aquablation is a minimally invasive surgical technology that treats benign prostate enlargement by using a heat-free, high pressure water jet to remove obstructing prostate tissue. Advantages of Aquablation include the reduction of daily medications, preservation of key anatomical structures, preservation of sexual function and shorter procedure times.
Patients who seek Aquablation therapy have reported low rates of irreversible complications including incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Most procedures take less than 2 hours.
“This is the future of prostate treatments,” said Brady, an Aquablation-trained Urologist. “There’s always new technology, but this is a good option for most men. It can treat very large prostates, which used to require a much more invasive surgery. This is a potentially outpatient treatment for some patients or perhaps an overnight stay. Many patients are interested in it because of the lower side effects.”
