Wilson Medical Center Names 2022 Mercy Award Winner

May 26, 2022

Wilson Medical center recently announced that Marty Bartlett has been recognized as the facility’s 2022 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Wilson Medical Center, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Mark Holyoak, CEO of Wilson Medical Center. “We are extremely proud to recognize Marty for his efforts on behalf of our hospital and our community. He goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care.”

Marty began his journey at Wilson Medical Center as a Supply Chain technician in November 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. Prior to joining the team at Wilson Medical Center, he worked more than 10 years as an Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate at Wilson County EMS. His story extends well beyond the hospital and our community. Marty served more than two decades in the United States Coast Guard, during which time he held various ranks and was part of the disaster response unit.

Since 2009, he has been a volunteer in the Medical and Logistics division of the Eastern Healthcare Preparedness Coalition and State Medical Assistance Team. Marty is also heavily involved in the local American Legion post, where he has served as Post Commander, and Vice Commander for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marty is very connected throughout the community, state and even internationally. Recently, he spearheaded a project to donate expired hospital products to support the emergency response efforts in Ukraine. He also plans to set up a local drive to collect personal hygiene products and other essential needs for the refugees in Ukraine.

Whether it’s delivering supplies at Wilson Medical Center or seeking out ways to help those in need internationally, he is a true example of what encompasses a Mercy Award winner.

Each facility winner, including Marty, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2022 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Marty and all facility winners are invited to attend.
