Wilson Medical Center recently announced that Lisa Skinner has been recognized as the hospital’s 2020 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Throughout her 22 years at Wilson Medical Center, from working in Radiology Services to Patient Navigation, Lisa has touched the lives of many patients, physicians, fellow co-workers and community members. Lisa reinvigorated the Patient Navigation program; she works collaboratively with community providers and hospital staff to ensure timely care for her patients. She helps patients navigate through their cancer journey and is there for them whenever they need her, without hesitation.

There are many examples that illustrate Lisa’s commitment to her patients, including providing meals and groceries, coordinating yardwork services, and fulfilling a patient’s last wish of seeing her granddaughter ride a horse.

In her previous role as Radiology Services manager, Lisa spent countless hours doing breast cancer awareness outreach to churches and other organizations, emphasizing the importance of mammograms. She co-founded the Pink Ladies, a volunteer group of women who provide resource to breast cancer patients. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Mother’s Day Mammograms program which provided free screening mammograms to uninsured and indigent women in the community.

Lisa serves as the Healthcare Chair on the United Way of Wilson’s Campaign Cabinet and led the hospital’s fundraising committee the last two years. There is no question that her unwavering commitment and passion to help others extends well beyond the walls of Wilson Medical Center.

Each hospital winner, including Lisa, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2020 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in October, to which Lisa and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
